City tourney slated for next two weekends

The name may be a little strange but it is the same tournament as the USBCA City Championships kick off Saturday, the start of two weekends of action.

Elks will play host to the team event, while Little's Lanes will be the site of the doubles and singles.

As per tradition, the 2006 Honors Team, which this year features Les Hackett, 96; Carroll Patton, 88; Wendell Peck, 88; Henry Baker, 88, and newcomer Leonard Ritzschke, also 88, will open the tournament throwing the first balls Saturday morning at 11. It's always a fun time.

Squad times for team are 11 a.m., 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Times for the singles and doubles are 12:30, 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Entry forms are available at all city lanes or over the Internet at musbc.com/gfusbca.

Entries close Thursday prior to each weekend.

There are three divisions divided by average: Division I is 182 and up for singles, 364 combined and up for doubles, and 910 and up for team.

Division II is 169 to 181 for singles, 338 to 363 combined for doubles and 845 to 909 for the team.

Division III is made up of 168 and under for singles, 337 and under for doubles and 844 and under for team.

Entry fees are $95 per team and $38 for singles and doubles, $19 per event per person.

Also, entry forms for this year's USBCA State Tournament, which will be held right here in Great Falls, are also available at all area houses.

·  ·  ·  In a final featuring a pair of Bozeman bowlers, Jill Zimbric defeated top-seed Tami Roper, 203-173, to win the latest stop of the Montana Mountain Glass Traveling Club, hosted by The Bowl in Bozeman.

Zimbric advanced to the final with victories over Butte's Denise Orizotti, 178-152, and Great Falls' Shawna Lane, 186-172, in the semifinals.

Orizotti opened the stepladder with a 213-195 win over Butte's Kathy Davis.

Roper averaged 197.2 in the qualifying to take the top seed. Lane was second, averaging 192.7. A total of 10 bowlers from across the state competed in the event.

The next stop will be Sunday, Feb. 12, at Westside Lanes in Missoula.

Phone Arnie Kraus, 491-1768, for more information about the league.

·  ·  ·  The 2006 Budweiser Handicap Tournament opens this weekend at Lewistown's Snowy Lanes. Tourney manager Rex Coleman urges bowlers to enter this Saturday on on Sunday afternoon shifts, since the last three Saturdays are already filled.

·  ·  ·  Leading the efforts last week were a 747 set, with games of 246 and 278, by Brian Christianson in Little's Straight-A-Way, and Guyla Streit, who tossed a 708 series with a huge 275 game in the 725 Classified, also at Little's.

In other league action, Rock Rayl fired a 225 and 622, while Nobi Sirucek's turned in a 222 and 596 for the men's and women's highs, respectively, at Pin & Cue.

At the Elks, Jake Jacobs posted a nice 711 series, with games of 245 and 244, for the high men's score. Karin Osborn's 640, with games of 258 and 235, earned women's honors.

The Wednesday Men's Handicap League at Murph's continues to be one of the more competitive in the city. Mark Pepin topped the talent this week with a 687 set, on games of 245 and 225. Ron Simonsen receives a nod after a 280 game.

Sharing men's honors at Black Eagle were Dustin Curtis, who went 231-223 for a 657 set, which was 100 total pins over his average; and Bob Chesko, who had 687, with games of 246, 228 and 215, in the BECC Seniors.

Roxie Foster's 244 game in the Friday Fallouts led the women.

Also deserving mention this week is Mike Arps, who scared perfect games on a couple of occasions. Arps shot 288-710 in the Satellite Mixed at Little's, and followed that with a 279 game in the MixMasters.
