Bowling a 300 game has always been a lifelong
goal for Pat Terry.
"It's been one of my goals along with bowling an
800 series," said Terry.
With everyone at Little's Lanes pulling for him,
Terry finally accomplished one goal last
Wednesday putting together all 12 strikes for
his first career perfect game.
"I wasn't nervous on the last ball at all," said
Terry. "I was glad I finally got it because it
got a monkey off my back."
Try gorilla.
"I've had so many chances in my life," said
Terry. "It's about time I finally got one."
Terry finished the night with a splendid 749
set, adding games of 226 and 223.
It was the ninth 300, fourth at Little's, bowled
in the city this season and he joins Duane Zeier
and Wayne Mauer — who tossed perfect games on
the same night at the Elks — John Kurtz, Ron
Corkin, Jim Aklestad, Doris Kimmerle, Paul Dehn
and Bernie Dickman Jr. in this season's perfect
game club.
Dickman, earlier in the week, tossed his
first-ever 300 at the Elks.
Also, Bozeman's Hal Illum tossed a perfect game
during the Coors Light John Willey Memorial Open
in October.

· Terry along with some of the best bowlers in
the area will be in town this weekend for one of
the most popular — and most fun — tournaments of
the season.
The annual renewal of the Santy Agency-Bud Light
40 and Over Singles and 40-90 Doubles will be
held starting Saturday at Little's Lanes.
Bruce Steffani will be trying to capture an
unprecedented third consecutive singles' title.
Steffani averaged a hefty 245 over 10 games to
dominate last year's event, beating Calgary's
Jack Guay 238-211 in the final match to claim a
second straight title.
Butte's
Mark Hodges and John Hall will be back to defend
their doubles title. The Mining City duo
defeated Great Falls' Fred Sadler and Hank
Rimkus, 225-168, in last year's championship
match. The Sadler-Rimkus combination set a
blistering pace in the qualifying to take the
top seed going into the stepladder finals.
Steffani, also a two-time winner in the doubles,
will team up with a new partner this year as he
and Rich Crawford have to be rated as one of the
favorites.
Al Pearsall, who is recovering from eye surgery,
and Willie McGee are also a formidable duo. The
two have made the finals the last three years.
Shift times for singles' qualifying, which is
five games, on Saturday are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
and there are plenty of openings.
Only nine spots are available for Sunday's
doubles, which starts at 8:45 a.m.
Call Little's at 452-4116 for more information.
Dickman's 300 along with a 290 were part of huge
792 series, which led the week around the area's
houses.
Lefthander Sharon Kunz rolled the top women's
series turning a 276 game into a 688 set in
Little's Classic league. Kunz's set was one pin
better than Karin Osborn, who broke out of a
mini slump with a 687, on games of 203-237-247,
in Little's MixMasters.
At Pin & Cue, Shawna Lane's 258 game and 615
series were highs for the women. Les Bruner's
247 and 665 topped the men.
It was a high-scoring week at Murph's topped by
Bruce Steffani's 257-717. Tim Preston was right
behind with a 702 set, featuring a 266 game.
Sheila Bedwell's 232 game was high for the
women.
Roxie Foster returned to form sporting a big 661
series in the Friday Fallouts at Black Eagle.
Foster's set included games of 245 and 222. Bob
Chesko was high for the men with a 657, topped
by games of 237 and 228.
Curt Backa, who would like to break out of his
lifelong slump and return to form, is a Tribune
sports and news copy editor and resident bowling
gorilla. When not feeding Pat Terry's monkey,
Backa can be reached at 791-6569, (800) 438-6600
