Two locals get call from Hall

Two Great Falls bowlers are among six slated for induction into the Montana State Bowling Association's Hall of Fame in ceremonies March 31 here.

Little's Lanes proprietor Mel Willey and longtime bowling activist Don Jordan have been tabbed from Great Falls. They join Harry Schaffer Sr. and the late Frank Jones from Butte, Whitehall's Bob Shaw and Livingston's personable Isadore "Izzy" Kadrmas for induction.

The ceremonies, which will be hosted by the Town House Inn, will be held in conjunction with the opening weekend of the Montana Bowling Association State Tournament.

The team event will be bowled at Little's Lanes while Pin & Cue will hold doubles and singles.

Tournament entry forms will soon be available at all area houses.

·  ·  ·  Rex Coleman would like to notify bowlers that entry forms for the 2006 $2,000 Budweiser Handicap Tournament are now available.

The popular tournament, which has both five-person team and a six-game singles event, will be held the weekends of Jan. 21-22, 28-29; Feb. 4-5 and 11-12.

Shift times for both team and singles are 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Phone Coleman toll fee at 1-877-538-3473 to reserve a spot for this year's tournament.

·  ·  ·  After a couple of 300s, an 800 and a rash of close calls, scores cooled off last week from around the area's houses.

Mke Carrethers and Doris Kimmerle led the week, respectively, for the men and women.

Carrethers, bowling in Little's Straight-A-Way, fired a 736 set, touting games of 257, 225 and 254.

Kimmerle tossed a 688, topped by a huge 279 game in Little's 725 Classified League last Thursday.

In other scores, Rod Hackett rolled a 697 series to lead the men at the Elks. Hackett's set included consistent efforts of 247 and 245. Karin Osborn's 628 series was high for the women.

At Pin & Cue, Les Bruner was high for the men with a 246 game and 641 series. Cristy Snider's 215 game and 590 series took women's honors.

Stretch Richards got things going in the Black Eagle Seniors League, tossing games of 235 and a big 276 for a 678 set. Elwood Sayler, bowling in the same league, topped the men with a 606 series, coming on games of 224 and 222.

Jack Hawley's 268 game and 693 series led the way at Murph's. Amanda Steffani's 232 game earned women's honors.

Also, a tip of the hat goes out to Mike Sharp and Al Decker.

Sharp, bowling in the Utility League at Little's, turned in a nice 285 game, which was 125 pins over his average to earn the USBC Century Award.

Decker also captured USBC honors with a 275 game, 101 pins over his 174 average.

Curt Backa, usually thrown out with the old, is a Tribune sports and news copy editor and resident kegling mook. Backa, never included in the new, can be reached at 791-6569, (800) 438-6600 or e-mailed at cbacka@greatfal.gannett.com
