Chuck Bartel, in over 40 years of bowling, has
had a few golden opportunities to roll his
first-career 300.
Sunday afternoon at the Elks Lanes, he finally
took advantage of one of them.
Bartel, bowling in the Elks City Tournament,
threw the perfect dozen in his second game of
doubles.
"I have had my chances," said Bartel. "I just
never could get it done.
"On the last ball, all I was thinking about was
staying low and hitting my mark.
"I stayed low, but I didn't hit my mark," Bartel
continued. "I was fortunate, I threw it wide but
it came back and carried."
"All twelve were pretty much in the pocket."
Bartel's 300 was the 11th rolled this season and
fourth bowled at the Elks.
It came on the heels of Russ Simonsen's perfect
game bowled in the GFBA City Tournament two
weeks ago.
Bartel, who holds a 200 average in two leagues a
week, joins Duane Zeier and Wayne Maurer — who
tossed perfect games on the same night at the
Elks — John Kurtz, Ron Corkin, Jim Aklestad,
Doris Kimmerle, Paul Dehn, Bernie Dickman Jr.,
Pat Terry and Simonsen in this season's perfect
game club.
