11-28-2006 Malmstrom bowlers heating up those cold Great Falls league nights; Sno Ball is on againMalmstrom Air Force Base bowlers quietly put up some good scores during the season.Tim Warden and Fred Sadler put an end to the quiet last week as the pair notched 755 and 751 series, respectively, in the Intramural League. Warden set included a big 287 game and also a 244. Sadler reeled off games of 268, 237 and 246 in his set. In other scores in a holiday-abbreviated week, a 160-average bowler led the way at Little's. Travis Feller, rolling in the Little's City League, fired games of 242 and 288 for a 719 series, a whopping 239 total pins over his norm. Feller edged Mike Christensen, who went 242, 263 for a 716. Karin Osborn also enjoyed a strong week, first leading the women at the Elks with a 231 game and 606 set in the Jack & Jill League. On Wednesday, she tossed a huge 269 game on her way to a 699 series in Little's MixMasters. The 699 was the high set posted for the women last week. Leading the men at the Elks was Jeff Dennen, who posted a 244 game and 652 series in the Tuesday Nite Men's league. Out at Murph's, Butch Preston's 223 game and 624 series topped the men. Diana Maus turned in a nice 222 game, high for the women. Familiar faces posted the highs at Pin & Cue last week. Nobi Sirucek posted games of 210 and 215 for a 619 series leading the women. Bob Orham turned a big 280 game into a 706 series for men's honors, just edging Rock Rayl, who had a 279 game and even 700 series. There was also a score of note coming out of Black Eagle. Andy Thomas, bowling in the Monday Volunteers, tossed games of 236 and 221, 73 and 58 pins, respectively, over his 163 average. · * * * In one of the more fun tourneys of the year, Elks will be hosting its annual Sno Ball event the next two weekends. The no-tap tourney — 9 pins for men and 8 pins for women — features teams of four, with at least one member of the opposite sex being included on each team. Pick up your best snowball and head for the Elks. Phone the Elks, 454-1305 or Rod Hackett, 899-1658, for more information. · * * * In one of the rare times the PBA tour holds a four-match stepladder finals, Wes Malott defeated top seed Chris Barnes, 269-239, in battle of Texans to capture Sunday's Denny's PBA Tour Windy City Classic, held at Hawthorn Lanes in Vernon Hills, Ill. Malott advanced through the finals with wins over Parker Bohn III, 269-246, and 239-177 over Mike Scroggins in the semifinal. Bohn opened the stepladder with a 268-225 victory over Jack Jurek. Malott fired a staunch 776 series over his three games. Bowling addicts can turn to ESPN Classic at 10 a.m. on Sundays for a tourney from yesteryear followed by this week's PBA matches on ESPN, starting at 11.
