Ring in the new year with that seven pin

Happy 2008! Here are a few kegling wishes for the new year:

First, Barb Lankford, she carries the 7-pin the next time.

Mattand Brad Harthun, shorts weather forever.

Doris Kimmerle, double the entries for this year's Classic 50s Ladies Scratch Classic.

Nice guy Mike Christensen, a 300 and 800 on the same night.

Scott Hirschi, a bit of bad luck when he defends his media bowling crown.

Donnie Zuhoski, a return to form.

Teammates Tom Gossackand Harry Schultz, respectively, no more chops and to bowl til he's 90.

To Howard Clodfelter, good luck with the release of his book, "Winning Bowling Poker Pots by Cheating."

Belt bowlers, some lanes.

Joleen Martinich, a successful future on the women's pro tour.

Bruce Steffani, a painless year of bowling.

And, good health, career high games and series for all.

·  ·  ·  Bigfork's Dave Howke defeated Great Falls' Paul Dehn 216-203 in the championship match to capture the $1,000 first prize in last Saturday's sixth-annual Holiday Scratch Classic at Browning's Park Lanes.

Howke advanced to the final of the double-elimination format with a 196-165 victory over Browning's Aaron Vandenberg, while Dehn, who pocketed $500 for second, edged Columbia Falls' Ron Vandevanter, 212-204, to make the final.

Vandevanter got by Choteau's Roy Schmidt, 234-213, and Vandenberg defeated Browning's Will Wood, 184-182, to advance to the semifinals.

Vandenberg collected $250 for third, while Vandevanter's fourth-place finish earned him $175.

Wood and Schmidt finished fifth and sixth, respectively, for $125 each.

The tourney drew a full field of 48, which was expanded from the original 32 spots.

Defending champion Kole Fitzpatrick of Browning lost his first two games but won his third to win the peanut gallery award of $75.

Bigfork's Keegan Littrell won the high-game award with a 269, good for $400 toward a set of tires.

Great Falls' Donnie White finished seventh, Choteau's Keith Van Setten eighth and Great Falls' Mike Carrette ninth. All received $75.

·  ·  ·  Entry forms are out for the 2008 edition of the $2,000-added Budweiser Handicap Tournament, which will run five big weekends, Jan 19 through Feb. 17, at Lewistown's Snowy Lanes.

The tournament includes a five-person team event and a six-game singles. Entry fees are $75 per team and $25 for singles. Handicap is 90 percent of 220.

Squad times are 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturdays, 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Phone Rex Coleman at 535-3473 to make reservations or to obtain more information.

Act fast because squad times will fill up in a hurry.

·  ·  ·  This Sunday's Bud Light-Santy Agency Doubles at Little's Lanes has a full field of 32 teams entered and there is now a waiting list. The Over 40 singles, set for Saturday, still has a few openings. Five-game qualifying shifts are set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Phone Little's at 452-4116 for more information or to reserve a spot.

·  ·  ·  In an abbreviated holiday schedule of league bowling, Duane Zeier set the high mark for the week with a hefty 289 game and a 738 set bowling in the Sunday Satellite Mixed League at Little's.

Barb Lankford, again, set the pace for the women with a 661 series, with games of 235 and 225, in the MixMasters at Little's.

Pin and Cue reported in this week as Mike Henderson led the men with a 267 game and 680 series in the MFCU League. Trina Linabary was high for the women with a 205 game and a 566 series.

Dale Sirucek set the bar at the Elks with a 695 series, coming on games of 257, 223 and 215, in the Friday Mixed. Heather Vukasin, on the strength of a 604 series, 204, 200 and 200, was high for the Elks women.

No big series shot at Murph's, but Jerry Wagner turned in a nice 289 game to earn honors.

This tidbit cannot go by without mentioning. Dale Linder, bowling in the Business House League at Little's last Wednesday, rolled an undistinguished 261 total for two games. In the third, Linder fired a huge 260 game almost matching his previous two-game total. I don't think I've ever seen that done. The 260 earned Linder the USBC Century Award.

Here are the rest of last week's honor scores:
