Sandy Francom, Kathy Hill and Mallory Curry captured the singles titles, while Guyla Streit took both all-events as the Great Falls USBC Ladies Championships wrapped up Sunday at Elks Lanes.
Francom, a league bowler out of Belt, turned her 582 scratch series into 717 with handicap to win the Division 1 singles. Hill totaled 698 to win the Division 2 crown and Curry's 719 was good enough in Division 3.
Curry also teamed with Patti Curry to win the Division 2 doubles crown.
Streit's first-week total of 1,950 scratch, for a 216.6 average, over nine games and 2,094 with handicap dominated the all events.
Other doubles' winners included Hallie Jacobs and Tracy Rigor, in Division 1, and Alyssa Johnson and Cindy Jenkins in Division 3.
Here are the final but unofficial results from the tourney:
All Events
Harlem's Ival Jackson was able to pull off the rare double in Lewistown's Budweiser Handicap Tournament, which ended five weeks of action Sunday at Snowy Lanes.
Jackson's six-game total of 1,560, bowled on the first weekend of the event, stayed at the top and he grabbed first prize and the $510 cash award for the singles' title.
Added to his singles' crown, Jackson was also part of the winning team, which also included Jake Doney, Davis Longknife, John Healy and Ozzie Snow.
The team, ITA, which shot a 3,570, pocketed the $1,000 first prize.
Circle's Stockman Lanes came out second in the team event with a 3,542 total, while Lewistown's Jon Larson was the runnerup in the singles with a 1,521, good for $350.
Top local finish in the team event was by Belt's Cheeseheads, who took fifth. Charlie Lindeman, a former winner, was the top local entry in the singles with a 13th-place finish.
The tourney drew a record 117 teams and 249 singles' entries and total prize fund $8,336.
"I just have to thank the bowlers who support this tournament every year," said Snowy Lanes' Rex Coleman. "Whether they win or not.
"They have adopted this tournament. What a great group!"
For a change a member of the media gets a big mention this week.
Local radio disc jockey Scott Hirschi put together games of 256, 265 and 226 for a huge 747 series, which was good enough to lead the week.
For Hirschi, who can be heard on a variety of radio stations but is featured prominently on the drive-time morning show on KMON-FM (94.5), it was his first-ever 700 series. The series also cemented the media bowling crown for the umpteenth time in a row for the golden-throated Hirschi, who recorded his big set in Little's MixMasters.
For the women, Jackie Henry, bowling in Little's Tuesday Afternoon Trio, rolled games of 234, 224 and 204 for a 662 set, to lead the week.
In other scores from around the city, Dusty Curtis led the men at Pin & Cue with a 740 series in the Wednesday Mixed. Curtis opened the night with a 275 effort and added games of 236 and 229. Chris Dittus led the women on the westside with a 225 game and 598 series in the Monday 535.
Downtown at the Elks, Scott Rodger, bowling in the Bull Elks, turned in a 244 game and 696 series, high for the men.
Senior bowler Donna Schultz garners women's honors after a 232 game and 579 series, 132 total pins over her average, in the Thursday Senior League.
A score of note from Murph's, Terry Brus reeled off a big 289 game and finished with a 691 series in the Friday Alibis.
Also a bowling oddity, Fort Benton's Diane Darling and Marie Conner both converted the Big Four, 4-6-7-10 split, in the league play at Jack's Lanes.
Curt Backa, a distant second to Hirschi in the media contest, is a Tribune sports copy editor and resident kegling historian. Backa, somewhat a media darling himself, can be reached at 791-6569, 800 436-6600 or e-mailed at cbacka@greatfallstribune.com
