In one of the highest scoring weeks I can recall, Guyla Streit, Ryan Moody and Mike Christensen found perfection, Pat Terry hit a milestone and three more just missed 300s.
Streit rolled her second-career 300 game, first in league play, in the Wednesday MixMasters at Little's.
"To tell the truth, I was more nervous on my ball in the 11th frame, than the one in the 12th," said Streit, whose other 300 came during a sanctioned traveling league appearance. "The one in the 11th went Brooklyn and after that carried, I figured I could just wing it in the final frame.
"I ended up throwing the last ball pretty good."
A 160 first game gave Streit no indication what the rest of the night would hold.
"I must have tried three or four balls in the first game and on the last two shots, I found the pocket," said Streit, who finished with a 213 game for a 673 series.
Moody, bowling in the Short Short Season Trio, finished his night with his first-ever perfect game and a 793 series.
"His highest up until now was a 296 game and he rolled that in the Willey tourney," said Little's Don Jordan.
Moody's 300 game and 793 series, would have been a cinch for high score for not only the week but might also been high for the season.
Not this week, as Terry reeled off games of 269, 255 and 280 for an 804 series, his career high.
"It's always been a goal to shoot an 800," said Terry. "I've been fortunate to bowl a couple of 300s, but to finally get an 800 is a real thrill."
Terry's 800 was the first one registered in the city this season.
Streit and Moody join Steve Edwards, Bruce Steffani, Mike Bowles, Stephen James, Fred Sadler, Ken Haugen, Reid Michel, Ron Simonsen and Steve Martin in this season's 300 club.
Simonsen and Martin rolled their 300 games in the Over 40 Singles tourney, held in January at Little's.
If that wasn't enough Donnie "Mr. 300" Zuhoski and Mike Carruthers just missed 300 games, both leaving ringin' 10s in league play last week.
Also, Bill Schlosser bowling in the Wednesday Mixed tossed a 298 game, which was part of a 730 series.
Christensen, coming off a victory in the U.S. Open qualifier, turned in a 300 game in sweeper action Saturday night at Bozeman's The Bowl.
The sweepers were a prelude to Sunday's Gary Gerhardt Memorial Tourmament.
If I'm not mistaken it is Christensen's third 300 game of his career.
In the tournament, Great Falls' bowlers continue their outstanding run as Bruce Steffani defeated Billings' Dave Winslow for the title.
Coinciding with the opening of the 2009 Montana USBC Open Tournament, the state association will induct four into the Montana State Hall of Fame in ceremonies in Anaconda on March 27.
This year Butte's Dolores Atchison, Anaconda's Sandi Beaudette and Robert and Alice Nash of Thompson Falls will are this year's inductees.
The tourney kicks off on Saturday, March 28, at Anaconda's Cedar Park Lanes and Copper Bowl.
The delegates meeting and MUSBC election will also be held that weekend.
Finally, Doris Kimmerle captured her second U.S. Open qualifier in Helena two weeks ago. I was at fault.
Kimmerle led the women's series last week with games of 224, 244 and 244 for a 712 series in Little's MixMasters.
Schlosser led the men last week at Pin & Cue, while Jackie Undem was high for the women. Undem, bowling in the MFCU league, rolled a 242 game and 621 series.
Dowtown at the Elks, Randy Guill got untracked with a big 730 set in the Bull Elks. Guill's games were 278, 236 and 216.
Sheila Brady's 212 and 206 games in the Thursday Ladies led the women.
