BOULDER HOT SPRINGS — Great Falls' Harry Schultz got the 2009 Montana USBC Open Tournament off to a flying start Saturday morning at Anaconda's Cedar Park Lanes.

In was a busy bowling weekend in the Butte-Anaconda area, as Utah's Chuck Groat continued his impressive string of victories in the state's premier scratch tournaments capturing his second straight Ringin' 10 at Star Lanes Sunday afternoon.
Groat, out of Kerns, dominated Salt Lake's Craig Harrington, 202-120 in the championship match to collect the $2,200 first prize.
Groat, a three-time winner of Little's John Willey including the 2008 title, has won four of the last five major tourneys held in Montana.
Groat led the qualifying and awaited for Harrington to emerge from the stepladder matches.
"Yea, Craig tried something different in the championship match, and you can see it didn't work," said tourney director Terry Martin. Harrington pocketed $1,600 for second.
Mike Sagers, also out of the Salt Lake area, took third.
A total of 185 bowlers competed in the event, down a little from 2008.
"We were down a little because of the economy," said Martin. "And people might have had a hard time finding a hotel room in this town this weekend with the Ringin' 10, the state tournament, the Wayne Estes basketball tourney and a 3-on-3 girls' high school hoop event.
"It was busy in the Mining City."
Many coming back from any of those Butte-area events may have encountered problems Sunday night. The storm, err blizzard forced many to find make-shift accommodations in Boulder as Interstate 15 was shutdown at the Boulder hill for most of the evening.
Bowling was the theme for most of the talk for those fortunate to find rooms at the hot springs.
