No. 15 and counting.
Willie McGee added his name to this season's perfect game club, opening Thursday's 725 Classified League at Little's Lanes with his sixth-career 300 game.
McGee said he wasn't nervous on his last ball, but "my legs went away in the 11th frame. They were just like noodles."
McGee said his ball in the 11th frame went to the Brooklyn side. "It was really terrible," said McGee. "My last ball was right in the pocket.
"But my legs were still wobbly."
McGee finished with games of 226 and 232 for a 758 series, which was high for the week.
"Every ball but two were in the pocket the whole night, except the Brooklyn and I left the 2-5-8," said McGee.
McGee said he battled the 10-pin the rest of the night, missing a pair of them. "I'm glad I carried in the first game," he said.
McGee joines Doris Kimmerle, Ken Curry, who has two 300s; Guyla Streit, Ryan Moody, Steve Edwards, Bruce Steffani, Mike Bowles, Stephen James, Fred Sadler, Ken Haugen, Reid Michel, Ron Simonsen and Steve Martin in this season's 300 club.
FOR THE FIRST TIME in my memory. a pair of Montana women made it through the first cut of the USBC Queens Tournament, being held at Reno's Bowling Stadium.
Great Falls' Shawna Lane and Billings' Julie Redfern both made it into Monday's third round, but were both eliminated after 15 games.
Lane, who lives now in Tucson, Ariz., was the last bowler to make it into Monday after posting a 10-game total of 1,987, which was 100th place. Redfern was just a couple of notches ahead of Lane in 98th, with a 1,988 total.
On Monday, the field was trimmed to the top 63, with Lane improving to 83rd after averaging 202 over the last five games.
Redfern slipped a little falling back to 99th place, with a 2,880 total, averaging 198 over her last five games.
It took a total of 3,052 , or 63rd place, to advance into Monday's fourth round.
In other results involving Montana bowlers, Bozeman's Karen Bockemuehl finished 171st(1,853), Fort Benton's Guyla Streit was 181st (1,830), Missoula's Dawn Hanninen was 201st (1,792) and Great Falls' Doris Kimmerle was 210th (1,767).
A quick note from this past weekend's USBC Open Tournament in Anaconda, Great Falls' Bill Bury took the lead in the A Division singles posting a 723 scratch effort, which was an 825 with handicap.
McGee's 300 and 758 were highs for the week for the men, while Tracy Arndt took honors for the women.
Arndt, in the Thursday 725 Classified, tallied a 256 game and 667 series.
At the Elks, lefthander Reid Michel led the way with a 258 game and 694 series in the last night of the Bull Elks.
In a quick correction from last week, Steve Martin's 288 game and 743 series in Little's MixMasters two weeks ago was high for the week, a stick higher than Doris Kimmerle's 742.
Finally, this will be the last bowling column of the season, but as many of you know, the season stretches well into the summer.
I will be keeping an eye on events in Anaconda as well as work on getting results out of Billings from the state women's tournament.
Also this weekend, the top high school bowlers in the state will gather in Butte for the state's High School Bowling Championships.
Don't forget Henry Baker, Nathan Beebe and myself will be inducted into the Great Falls USBC Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 23, in ceremonies at the Knights of Columbus.
Here are the rest of last week's honor scores from around the region:
