Not one but two 300s for Pearsall

  • Happy birthday, Al Pearsall.

And Pearsall made it a happy one by rolling his 14th and 15th career 300 games in a span of four days.

Pearsall, who celebrated his 65th birthday last Friday, opened his three-game set in Thursday's 725 Classified League at Little's Lanes with the first 300. He ended the night with games of 214 and 249 for a 763 series, which was high for the week.

"I bought a new ball off the internet," said Pearsall. "I told Al Fenner to go ahead and order it. It was only $80 and over the counter it is $240."

"Since I got it I have been bowling up a storm."

To cap the week, Pearsall, bowling with Pat Terry in the doubles of the Great Falls USBC Open Tournament at Little's on Sunday, opened his set with his second 300.

"It was like I was dreaming and it was happening all over again," said Pearsall. "I couldn't believe it when Pat told me we were bowling on lanes 15 and 16 again.

    "I said I wouldn't hit a 500, and I shot a 300."

Pearsall finished his doubles with a 778 series, and combined with Terry's 656, the duo won the A Division event.

Pearsall's two 300s make it seven on the season, and he joins Duane Zeier, Dan Schaaf, Adam Thoroughman, Brian Lee and Jim Pickering in this season's 300 club.

High scores weren't reserved for the men last week, as Tracy Rigor came within a stubborn 10-pin of recording the eighth 300 of the season.

Rigor, bowling in the Thursday Ladies at the Elks, reeled off the first 11 strikes but left the single stick on a Brooklyn hit in the 12th frame to finish with a 299.

"I thought I threw a pretty good ball on the last one," said the righthanded Rigor. "I knew it went Brooklyn but it could have carried."

The 299 game is a new house record at the Elks.

A night later Barb Baumgartner also gave 300 a shot, striking in her first 10 frames to end with a 289. She finished with a 687 set, high series for the women last week downtown.

Pearsall's 763 led the men last week, while Kristen Egan again led the women.

Egan, in the 725 Classified at Little's, turned in games of 259, 235 and 233 for a 727.

Choteau's Wayne Maurer was high for the men at the Elks. Maurer, in the Tuesday Night Men, tossed games of 257, 243 and 211 for a 711 set.

A score of note from Black Eagle was Nathan Beebe's 702 effort in the Bums League. Beebe had games of 247, 228 and 227.

This past weekend's storm played havoc with the first weekend of the Budweiser Handicap Tournament at Lewistown's Snowy Lanes.

Tournament manager Rex Coleman said he had numerous cancellations on the first weekend.

The Munsons, with Derik Arntzen, Bo Kombol, Kevin Arntzen, Garrett Carr and Brent Sipe, lead the team event with a 3,181.

Derik Arntzen continued his good bowling in the six-game singles with a 1,426, which is the high score. Hays' Ozzie Snow is second with a 1,391.

The tournament lasts five more weekends, and Coleman reports shifts are filling up fast.
