Women's City tournament on tap next two weeks

2-9-2010

  • The women take to the lanes the next two weekends, Feb 13-14 and Feb. 20-21, for the 2010 edition of the Great Falls USBC Women's City Tournament.

The team event, made up of four member teams, will be held at Black Eagle Community Center. Squad times for both Saturdays and Sundays are 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Elks will play host to the doubles and singles and squad times are the same, 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays.

According to tournament director Shirley Durran, there are plenty of openings for this weekend, while the second weekend is filling up fast.

Entries close the Thursday prior to each weekend.

Tournament entry forms are available at all lanes, and can be mailed, with payment, to Mike Bowles, 803 Fox Drive, Great Falls, MT, 59404.

For more information, phone Durran at 781-2843.

  • From Lewistown, The Snow Monsters, with Kyle and Karen Moseman, Kauri Stulc, Darcy Sturm and James Shirey, took over the lead after the third weekend of the $2,000-added Budweiser Handicap at Snowy Lanes.

The fivesome, out of Roy, fired a 3,430 to unseat Zanto Construction, who had the lead after the third week with a 3,342.

Harlem's Ival Jackson, a former winner and very familiar name to the tournament, moved into first in the six-game singles with a 1,517, knocking Billings' Bobby Herring, 1442, into second.

The tournament runs two more weekends. Phone Rex Coleman at 535-3473 for more information or to reserve a spot.

  • A rejuvenated Ken Curry led the week turning in a 747 series in the Little's City league at Little's. Curry's set included games of 267 and 258.

Karin Osborn, bowling in the MixMasters also at Little's, was high for the women with a 678 series, with a pair of 246 games.

At the Elks, Jim Dixon rattled the pins in the Tuesday Men with games of 254, 248 and 211 for a 713.

For the women, Heather Helmbrecht, in the Friday Mixed, tossed a 254 game and a 613 series.

At Malmstrom A.F.B., Travis Woody turned a 257 game into a 689 set in the Thursday Mixed at Aces High.

  • And at Black Eagle, John Quinby's 268 game and 642 series was the week's high.

Going back a week, apologies go out to Tracy Eisenbarth, whose 255 game in the Monday Ladies Classic at Little's was overlooked. Tracy received a copy of the popular Stars and Strikes magazine for my miscue.
