Season begins and ends with Zeier's 800s

Last September, Duane Zeier christened the new bowling season with a 300 game and an 804 series.

Fittingly, last Thursday at Little's Lanes, Zeier closed the season with games of 279, 278 and 248 for an 802 series.

For Zeier, who does not keep exact count of his bowling accomplishments, it was either his seventh or eighth 800 series.

Seventh or eighth, Zeier's accomplishments are truly remarkable.

But this season he has been a little inconsistent.

"It's been a real up-and-down season," said the lefthanded Zeier. "I started out the season well and bowled well around city tournament and then it just stopped."

Zeier said he recently made ball change.

"I had Donnie White drill me up an experimental ball," said Zeier. "It worked two out of the three weeks I used it."

Zeier said he had a 779 set three weeks ago, and followed that two weeks later with his 802.

"I had 16 in a row that stretched from the first game into the second," said Zeier. "I had the first nine in the second game, but I left a 7-pin in the 10th."

In other bowling news, Terry Pearsall just missed tossing the eighth 300 game of the season last Wednesday in Little's MixMasters.

Pearsall reeled off the first 11 strikes, but left a 5-pin in the 12th for the dreaded 299 game.

According to Little's Don Jordan, the ball in the 12th frame was the fifth time in that game that Pearsall found the Brooklyn side. Unfortunately, he wasn't as lucky on the fifth ball as he was the first four balls.

Pearsall finished with a 714 series, adding a 244 third game.

Barb Lankford led the women last week with a 266 game and 665 series, also in the MixMasters.

Rich Crawford led the way at Aces High last week with a 264 game and 692 series, Nate Beebe's 258 game and 690 set was right behind.

  • In news out of the Queen's Tournament, being held in El Paso, Texas.

Bozeman's Karen Bockemuehl advanced into the fourth round of the 2010 USBC Senior Queen's Tournament.

After 15 games, Bockemuehl stood in 25th place with a 2,913 total, a 194.2 average.

After the third round, only the top 31 advanced into the fourth round, that was set for later on Monday night.

In the Queen's tourney, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard continued to set a torrid pace averaging a lofty 242 over the first 15 games, a 3,636 total.

The field was cut to the top 63 for the match-play bracket rounds that began Monday afternoon.

Kelly Kulick was second with a 3,458. Tish Johnson was third with a 3,457 and Leanne Hulsenberg was fourth with a 3,444.

Special thanks go out to my friend Tom Gossack, who made my introduction for my induction into the Montana USBC Hall of Fame last Saturday at the Billings' Hilton Garden Inn.

As David Letterman says, he raised the roof off the dump.

There is no truth to the rumor, that Gossack and I are taking our show on the road.
